Careful pruning of valued specimen trees in gardens across Bucks and Oxon is one of our specialities. Over the years we have pruned hundreds of trees like the Beech shown here in these photos.

Our team take a real pride in their work and crown reduction when done well is really a living artform. Our climbers are all college trained but more importantly they have an experienced eye for a trees natural shape and balance.

Reduction of tree crown in a beech tree
Often in our gardens trees are competing for space with other trees and property. They are also considerations about light and shade for other parts of the garden and house windows. Sometimes the lower foliage on a tree blocks a view through to further parts of the garden or an attractive view beyond. All of these concerns may be addressed with some well considered tree pruning.

The Beech tree here was a mature specimen in good condition and the customer loved it for its shape and prominence in the garden. They wanted to maintain direct sunlight into certain other borders in the garden and were a little concerned that it could be damaged by winter storms.

We suggested a light crown reduction would be appropriate and would address these issues. Beech trees do not tolerate heavy-handed lopping and its important to maintain the natural flowing form of the branches so that they finish with delicate leafy growth.

Most of this work was carried out with a specialist hand saw rather than a chainsaw which we find is the best tool for lighter tree pruning jobs. Often even on mature trees the diameter of the finished pruning cuts is mostly below 50 mm or 2 inches.

As you can see from these photos the finished form of the tree is fairly natural and once in leaf it will not be obvious that this tree has had any work.

So, if you have mature garden trees that you wish to maintain with the care and skill that they deserve, please do get in touch – we will be pleased to advise.
