Here at Four Seasons Tree Care, we are loving the fabulous initiative by the Woodland Trust, who aim to plant 64 million trees over the next ten years. Obviously, that’s going to be a lot of work, which is where we all come in to the equation.
The Trust wants to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to plant a tree, so they are literally giving away hundreds and thousands of trees to schools and communities across the country.
If you are a school or community, you can visit the Woodland Trust website and choose from a list of fantastic tree packs, such as Hedges, Copses, Wild Harvest, Year Round Colour, Working Wood, Wildlife and Wild Wood. Then you need to fill out an application form, and if you’re successful, they will send a pack out in November when trees are dormant and perfect for planting. You will need to know the grid reference of the land where you wish to plant, and also make sure you have permission from the legal landowner.
Tree planting in OxfordshireIf you are a farmer or landowner looking at large scale planting, the Wildlife Trust can help you too, with tailored advice, grants and funding, trees and protection. Not only that, but if you plant the trees yourself, they will contribute at least 60% of the costs. If you would like a contractor, such as ourselves to plant the trees and provide a weeding service for the first two years the Trust will contribute 50% of the costs.
Last, but not least, if you’re short on space or just want one or two trees to brighten up your garden, they can be purchased individually.
Every tree provided by The Woodland Trust is UK sourced and grown to minimize the risk of importing and spreading tree pests and diseases.
So why do it? Well, just one oak tree supports a thousand other species, so imagine how much difference you’ll make planting all these trees! You will establish food sources for woodland wildlife and create a living legacy for future generations.
